Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Repeat.

Living sustainably is something that has taken on a life of its own in recent years. The challenge of it seems to be to strike a balance between doing what’s best for the planet and living comfortably, within budgets.

It is something we can all do to reduce our impact on the planet. But like anything else, sustainable living comes with its fair share of myths and misconceptions…

So today we’re going to dispel some of those myths and set the record straight on some of the most common sustainable living misconceptions.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING IS EXPENSIVE :

Eco friendly, sustainable living could be expensive at times to buy. Buying in minimal that lasts longer is so much better than buying without a purpose and ending up repairing quite often…

What’s better to your wallet when you can save than repetitive spending on the same ? Before buying, you got to think, if what you want to buy is a real need or a mere want ! By knowing that you could end up spending so much less than you would have expected !

You can try to buy good quality second hand goods and give a life to it and in turn save money too! Second hand fashion is expected to grow up to 185% within the next 10 years.

For instance, when you need a car to practice your driving skills, you can buy a second hand good quality car and practice.... than buying a brand new one and worrying if you would bump it anywhere or if it would get scratched.

Sustainable living is quite easy, when you keep it minimal. Practice Reuse, reduce and recycle.

PLASTIC IS IMPOSSIBLE TO AVOID:

Yes,

There is plastic everywhere, in everything.

But never without a better alternative, right ? Sustainable living isn’t that hard to find a way.

Simple ways you can avoid Messing up earth with plastic are,

  • Carry your own bottle , than buying plastic bottles everywhere you go and dumping nature.
  • Carry your own cloth bags when you go to shop.
  • Segregate degradable and non degradable.
  • when purchasing cereals or non-perishable items, take your own container and fill them or opting for returnable crates in bulk stores.

It’s as simple as these, not a rocket science!

Eco - friendly home products are expensive and hard to find:

Brushing your teeth with Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), paraben, Artificial Sweeteners and more ? Rinsing your hair with shampoos of Cocamidopropyl betaine, Glycol distearate and still having hair fall issues ?

Wait ? One second, what are those names ? Products names ?

No my friend ! They are terribly hazardous chemicals that are in the products we use daily not realizing its toxicity on us and mother earth.

These products may seem to be giving you whiter, sparkling teeth, smooth and shiny hair, but its end effects after few years are nightmares you would never want to imagine, I warn you.

Not just tooth paste and shampoos but every other product you use everyday.

Do you want to choose the right ? Whatever you buy, Go to the ingredients, did you find names that were weird and you aren’t even able to pronounce? That’s your sign to keep back that product from wherever you took, because you won’t take a wrong decision.

Choose products that are made organic with ingredients you can pronounce and are common, You can’t risk your health right ? Invest rightly, don’t get fooled !

Green Living is Tedious & Big ticket:

Green living doesn’t mean to dump a forest into your home !

Its about walking that short distance instead of driving and adding on to the greenhouse effect. Switch off unwanted wastage of energy when not in use — water, electricity and more. Carrying a cloth bag instead of a plastic cover. Growing plants that would naturally repel insects and mosquitoes like rosemary, basil, lemongrass, lavender, all of these are easy to grow and maintain just some love, water, light. than using chemical repellants.

Wasn’t it Easy-pezzy ? But it’s definitely the most rewarding.

Green living is only good for the environment:

Do you want to buy oxygen in liter's and store them and use them to breathe each day? Do you want medicines to replace nourishing food ? Do want barren lands with no water to even drink, forget taking a shower !

I hope you are wise enough to tell a “ No” ! I know that.

But we still think that green living is only good for the environment! Yes it is but not just for it, but for us, our future generation. Do you want your children to go through times where they find hard to even live ?

Though we are warned everyday about greenhouse effect, global warming, and more, we aren’t getting that serious about it ! Are we?

Still polluting, still dumping waste in landfills and waterbodies, still plastic as a silent killer, even in medicines, and food, Mind you ! I’m not talking about its packaging.

Shall we take that real steps towards giving a better earth to our children and future generations ?

Everyday Mother Earth reminds you to take the step before she ends, when are you going to take that step ? Let’s join for better today, cleaner tomorrow, and gift the paradise of future to our children and theirs to come !
